TOP 10 List of Architecturally Beautiful Buildings in Iloilo, Philippines



There are a lot of beautiful buildings in the City & province of Iloilo. On my list these are establishments & mansions that were built for different purposes.  I'm living in Iloilo for several years and based on what I’ve seen, I considered the following buildings as well-designed  and iconic structures that everyone should not miss to visit.

No1:  The Lizares Mansion - Angelicum School
Location: Tabuc Suba, Jaro, Iloilo City
Now: Elementary & Secondary School
Built in 1937 by Don Emiliano Lizares for his wife Conchita Gamboa and their two sons and three daughters, the mansion has three floors, a basement and an attic. It has a winding wooden staircase and big bedrooms with floor and doors made of hardwood. It has 59 doors which indicate the intricacy of its layout. 



No3: Nelly’s Garden
Location: E. Lopez St., Jaro, Iloilo City 
Now: Residential & Museum
Nelly Garden (also known as the Lopez Mansion) is a 5 hectare estate which is one of the most important structures in Iloilo. It was built in 1928, by Don Vicente Lopez and his wife Donya Elena Hofilena. It was named after their eldest daughter, Nelly.  Before its construction, Don Vicente and his wife used to live near the Jaro Cathedral where there are numerous religious activities that leads in constant noise. Due to this, they transferred to a much quieter place and it is the spot where Nelly Garden is located.

No3: The Castle Hotel - English School
Location: Bonifacio Drive, Iloilo City
Now: Korean English School
A heritage house in a 5,000 square meter lot at Bonifacio Drive, built in 1930 at estimated cost Php 80,000. A two-storey building with basement. Ther are four big rooms with bath tub in the second floor while the ground floor was utilized as iving and dining rooms and kitchen. The building was occupied by the Japanese army during the war. And after the war, the hose was again used by the U.S. Army is its headquarters. 

No4: Quezon Hall Building @ WVSU
Location: Luna St., La Paz, Iloilo City
Now: University
The coming into being of the West Visayas State University (WVSU) dates back to 1924 when it became an independent and distinct teacher training institution known as the Iloilo Normal School (INS). However, its birth can be traced back as early as 1902 when it was opened as a tributary normal school with secondary school instruction. In 1916, it was a secondary school complete with elementary and training departments. It was only, however, in 1924, with the completion of its main building (now Quezon Hall) and the laboratory school building when INS became a distinct educational institution itself

No5: Eusebio Villanueva Building or Intentional Hotel
Location: J.M Basa St., Iloilo City 
Now: Commercial Building
The Eusebio Villanueva Building (Washington International Hotel) once known as the International Hotel, Iloilo’s iconic heritage building.
The Villanueva Building poses variations in the treatment of the exterior. Portraying characteristics of the neoclassical style, its series of semi-circular rusticated arches terminating its cusps compose the ground level. 


No6: Consing Mansion 
Location: Molo Plaza, Iloilo City
Now: Owned by SM Properties
This Yusay Consing Mansion, is a building of huge heritage significance in the Molo District of Iloilo City.  This was once the residence of Dona Petra Lacson who married G Yusay, the first judge of Manila. This family practically owned the entire Molo district in Iloilo. Records show that in this house, President Manuel L. Quezon stayed and slept as a guest, and President Sergio Osmeña visited.


No7: Old Iloilo City Hall (Now UP Visayas)
Location: General Luna St., Iloilo City
Now: Admin Building of UP Visayas - Iloilo
. Constructed during the American occupation, the building embodies the cultural and architectural influence of the colonizers mixed with Ilonggo yearning for autonomy and democracy.
It was constructed at a cost of almost P218, 000 in a 16-hectare government property valued at P63, 000. Its first concrete was poured Feb. 1, 1934 and was completed more than two years later. During the War, the building was used by the Japanese invaders as a garrison. Damaged during the battles, the building was repaired with aid of the US Government under the Philippine Rehabilitation Act of 1946..  During the War, the building was used by the Japanese invaders as a garrison. No8: S Javellana Building
Location: JM Basa St., Iloilo CIty 
Now Commercial Building
The two ( 2 ) storey S Javellana building was constructed in 1922. The parapet wall of decorative screen railings is accented by pedestals at regular intervals and meet at the corner to accentuate a focal point. The frontispiece is created by a bulls-eye on an arched pediment with an extended ledge supported on each end by two figurative corbels.
A series of arches arranged by parallel to each other form the ground level arcade. 

No9: Aduana Building
Location: Muelley Lonney St., Iloilo City
Now: Office Building
Iloilo Customs House (Aduana) ShareTweet By Explore Iloilo. Updated on July 8, 2015. Iloilo customs house aduana Also called as Iloilo’s “Aduana”, the Customs Building in Iloilo was built during the American colonial period. It is the second biggest Customs House after Manila’s. The architecture of the Iloilo Customs house is a copy of the Immigration building in Manila, which is characterized by a tall tower rising at the center of the building.


No10: Iloilo Old Provincial Capitol
Location: Corner Izanrt & General Luna St., Iloilo CIty
Now: Function Building & Museum
The Old Capitol Building of Iloilo is now considered a National Historical Site by the NHI (National Historical Institute). It is the old edifice fronting the Arroyo Fountain in Iloilo, Philippines. The former casa real made during the Spanish era was made of wood and stone. In April 11, 1901, the civil government of the province of Iloilo established the Iloilo Provincial Capitol. Revolutionary General Martin T. Delgado, became the first Governador and served from 1901 to 1904.

Natural Parks


San Juaquin Beach – Famous for its pebbled shore, the beach is a great diving spot with its diverse marine life beneath its crystal blue waters.

Mariit Conservation Park – Located in brgy Jayubo, the park is home to endangered animals native to the province including the endemic Hornbills and the Visayan Spotted Deer.

Bulabog Putian National Park – The 30 caves within the park plays an important role in Philippines history as it became the revolutionaries' dwelling place during the war.


• Agho Island – A small parcel of paradise in the province of Iloilo as it contains extensive white sand beaches and coral gardens.
